OK, authorities didnt really discover 5 plants worth a cool mil but it does expose a pet peeve of mine. The calculated and wanton effort of LEO to make MJ busts appear worse than they are. Or should I say, to appear better?
From coast to coast, with every new marijuana bust that hits the news, the pertinent "LEOs" assign "street" values to the haul which even the most accomplished of growers could only dream. Is it merely simple sensationalism and or standard issue propaganda or is it a careful and calculated orchestration of the two? I vote for the latter.
For those of you who dont see the big deal in the "numbers game", I would suggest a closer look. Frequently, these values are being assigned by standard issue city and town deputies, not your highly trained DEA agents if there exists such a thing. Granted, they are officers of the law who receive training to become LEOs but seriously, what type of training do they receive in regard to marijuana in plant form as it relates to street value? Are these deputies required to attend some sort of marijuana plant(s) street value conversion/estimation class in order to be able to arrive at said numbers? Would such a class teach a revolutionary technique to convert plant size to exact yield while also taking into consideration the particular strain which may or may not fetch a higher price and are these deputy Einstein's also able to figure in current market values as they pertain to the season? In other words, are they also capable of factoring in a pound of pot in December may not be worth near what it would be in a predictably dry June due to greater availability in October because of harvest market flooding/glut?
Another equally important and as irritating issue I have is the ever present "street value" reference itself. Why dont these mathematical deputy wizards refer to it as "potential medicinal value"? Yea, I know, just like their street value estimations, I may be dreaming also...
Case in point: Examples of "street value" bogus and "Overkill Class 101":
On another note and at a different time I'll comment on deputy Offense Overkill Class 101 (ink pens not included) as illustrated below:
"Gould was charged with trafficking marijuana, possession with intent to manufacture, sell, and deliver marijuana, manufacturing marijuana, maintaining a building to keep, sell, and produce marijuana, and maintaining a vehicle to transport marijuana..." MF
