I was recently in Toronto visiting for a few days with a friend. I had just got my card a few months before and I heard about the vapour lounge and such establishments. Armed with my card and some cash I went to sign up at the closest dispensary. I had no problems and the folks there where great (thanks !). I was offered a large selection to choose from. the prices went from $7 per gram to $13 per gram, so I figure the adverage price is $10 per gram.
I found a factoid on one of these sites (I am looking in my history to see if I can find the page). This person had found out through the FOIA (freedom of information act) that in 1978 it cost the government about 90 cents an OZ.
out of that 2/3 was money spent on security, so they figured out it cost the government about 1 penny per gram to grow it if you factor out security.
I do not know what a 1978 penny is worth now but for arguement's sake we said it is worth 10 pennies now that still is a huge margin. 10 cents to 10 dollars is an increase 100 times. That is a huge profit margin and that is most likely a good reason why it has not yet been relegalized.
When the profit is taken out of it, the cost will drop like a stone. That could ruin many people and communities, but the freedom to grow and medicate will take center stage.
