Hi Everyone,

I am a new member to the site. I am also new to mj horticulture. 6-7 weeks ago I planted 1 bag weed seed for the first time. Later on I ordered some seeds online, germinated them, then planted them (5 online 1 bag weed seed). I began my first grow with 6 23w cfl's (temp. 6500k) total lumen output 8700. I am currently using MG soil cause I am still a rookie. Most of my seedlings are doing well except for my oldest plant (the bag weed seed). About 4 days ago the bottom/older leaves began to show symptoms that something was Wrong. The leaves began to yellow and lots of brown spots began to appear. My only solution was to flush the soil with distilled water; which I've done for the past two days. If anyone could help diagnosing my problem and help out with advice I would really appreciate it.

Thanks Everyone,

Hey THEkilla, I would love to try to help you out but there really isn't enough info here. But I can give you a list of the most common problems that I ahve seen.

- Over watering:Early stage seedlings don't have the number of leaves to transpire much. In other words they don't need that much water. In fact in soil grows keeping the medium on the drier side forces the roots to grow out more as they search for water. Too much water can also cause damping off or even root rot.

-Too hot or too cold: Often times folks aren't concious enough of their plants temps during their early stages of life and they tend to be too concerned about it later in life.

- The distance of your light source from your plants: most commonly they place them too close to the plant early in life. Although I don't think that this is the problem in your situation.

-Over feeding: Alot of folks kill little plants with too much love early on in life. Leave them alone and let them get established. You wouldn't bring a newborn baby home from the hospital and start him off with a great big ole T-bone, niether should you begin an agressive feeding program until you plant can handle it

-Misting or spraying the leaves: there is alot of debate on whether this is good or bad. I am a proponent of foliar feeding of plants when they are actively growing. I spray foliar applications on acres of melons and can tell you that if done early in the morning before it gets hot that by the next morning you will see an unbelievable amount of jumpstarted growth. However the application of water to the leaves also gives the opportunity for air or soil borne pathogens to get a leg up on your plants.Especially I don;t like water splashing from the soil onto a plants leaves.... a sure recipe for trouble. We lay miles of plastic in our vegetable operation each year and reducing soil splash onto the leaves is one of the big benefits.

Ok ..... I know i've probably bored you to death now but, hopefully I've given you some points of thought as you look at your cultural techniques. Best of luck and I hope I have been a little help to you.

If you need me I'll just be uptheholler!
