This winter and spring I'll be staying at my parents' house, thus, living in my old bedroom from childhood to highschool. My dad has a terminal illness and is receiving treatment. I have to be here to help out with chores and to take Dad to his appointments. It's all going fine and I'm happy to be at home for a while and play a little hooky from university classes this semester.
I decided I needed to make my room more "me" because it's still decorated with band posters and little knick knacks that were my girl-hood and not necessarily "me" now.
I went ahead and spent about fifty bucks on marijuana leis (the fake kind). I bought enough to string them all around the room, have them draping down the walls and so-forth. I also bought some fake marijuana plants that look entirely real and put those around the corners of the room. It looks awesome - like a marijuana paradise.
Today, my mom seemed rather horrified and asked me what was going on. I told her that it was all fake and just decorations. She wanted to know why on earth anyone would have fake versions of marijuana since it's "such an addictive drug," lol. At that point, I realized, I just LOVE the plant itself! If I can't have my garden here, then I'll decorate with the closest thing to it, just for the love of the plant.
I told my mom that even if I didn't smoke it, I would still want it growing around me and being in my presence. She wanted to know what their is to love about it. It got me thinking...
Besides the effects of THC, I love the site of the plant, the smell, the shape of the leaves, the fibers that can make clothing, the omega-3's that help with depression, the ability the plant has to help people around the world, the ability the plant has to save the trees and rain forests and the earth in general, the interesting way the plant grows, the fact that marijuana has both a masculine and feminine aspect. ...The list could go on and on.
My mom seemed to ease up and finally actually said, "I guess the fake plants are kind of cute and funny. Where did you get all these leis?" Suddenly, it was like were having a moment of connection with marijuana being the topic of discussion, and we WEREN'T fighting. I couldn't believe it.
All in all, I love the plant. In fact, I may even be guilty of worshiping it. However, the fact remains... Even if I could not smoke it or use the THC in any way, it would still be my favorite plant on the earth and I would grow in my garden just to be around it. To me, it's a heavenly, sacred plant.
