Right, so I'll let this one run its course quarantined from the others. The others all look fine now but it's the same multi-purpose compost from a garden centre, so use peroxide just in case? Or monitor closely and take action if any more splits occur and/or tell-tale redness appears?

Ouch, that sounds nasty and it has got to UK farms, in lettuce. No sign of red (gently pushed aside soil at base to slightly expose start of root) but I'll quarantine for now just in case. I've added a few more photo details above.
