Fimming is never for sure... sometimes you get 4, sometimes 3 and sometimes only 2... and it takes a long time 3-5 days, to resolve what is going to happen. A quick topping is immediately recovered from, with the node below the cut becoming the primary node on that branch.
If you top only once, you get two main kolas if you top anywhere from node #4 on up... If you top only once between nodes 3 and 4, you get just what you would get with a fim, sometimes 4 or even 5 main kolas, but usually 3 and sometimes just 2, and again it takes forever to resolve this cut. If you wait for node 5 to just be rising up at the top, but cut way down below between nodes 2 and 3, you get 4 main kolas... usually a good start for quad or mainline training.
If you make additional cuts after these first cuts, dominance goes out the window and the plant will revert to just having one main kola and multiple secondaries.

So topping gives a better structure then as filming is a hit or miss. That's cleared that up then lol. So do you recommend to only top once???

I was thinking to top from the 6/5th node down to the fourth. Then when a transplant to their final pots, tie them down and top the new tops. Over a week before flipping them, top them a final time ??? Is this over kill or quote moderate topping ??? Thanks inadvanced

There are no real rules on this. I used to top and then top and then top again... over and over, trying to bush out the plant with 20-30 bud sites. This works well, but what I learned is that by doing that, every single one of those buds, except one, are not primary buds, and the quality is not the same. It all depends on what you are going for, volume or quality or a mixture of both.
Transplanting should be done strictly based on water usage, so as to build up a rootball in the previous container before moving up. Have you read my How to Properly Water tutorial where I talk about uppotting?

Yeah I did, uppot when they drink up what you feed them within 24 hours. From that alone has evolved how I do things forwards. We're going roots balls not plants, the plant is just the by product from the root ball.

You could say do yeah, otherwise would be great. Topping to much is like watering down the quality, as food and energy has to be distributed to many different bud spots. So topping no more than 3 times should be sufficient enough?
