Don't make the assumption that a white cloud somehow means that the calcium or the magnesium is wiped out. If the pH is within the proper range for your medium, it will be available to the plant. And you say you are getting this reaction, the cloud, when using both up and down... could the cloud simply be the pH solution dispersing in the water?
