Two students attending John Tyler High School were detained Friday after they were found in possession of marijuana.

The 16-year-olds were taken into custody for their alleged role in two separate and unrelated incidents.

"One student was found near the football practice field when someone reported he was acting suspiciously," said Cody Cunningham, Tyler Independent School District communications director. "When the officer went to investigate, the smell of marijuana was detected."

The other student was detained by authorities after he was found flushing a small amount of marijuana in the boys' restroom.

Both will be educated in an alternative school environment, pending the outcome of detention and disciplinary hearings.
