With only one month to go, the second annual Hempola Family Farm Festival (August 10 and 11, 2002) is shaping into a unique and enlightening two day carnival occasion geared to families and people of all ages. Following the event's debut in 2001, this year the activities and attractions have nearly doubled in size. Here are some of the highlights you can expect:

Park right at the farm and pick up your wrist band for the weekend ($10 for adults, children under 5 free, ages 6 to 14 and seniors $5.00). The gates open at 10:00 am. Settle in with a Hempola pancake breakfast then enjoy a wide array of options --

Take a hay ride through the hemp fields and your kids will be entertained in the children's tent full of surprises, crafts and entertainment. There are planned demonstrations of hemp products, a hemp food village and seminars on hemp nutrition and cooking. Tour history's first hemp straw 'round house' as well as a fully restored heritage barn. A separate tent will also accommodate an interesting cross-section of vendors featuring arts and crafts and many, many hemp products. Plus, a music stage will be home to five different bands featuring a wide array of musicians from the area. This year the people at Hempola Valley Farms have also installed a "trivia trail," a serene walking path through the hemp fields with many stops along the way where plaques describe some interesting and somewhat surprising facts and figures about hemp. They've definitely planned something for everyone.

The Hempola Family Farm Festival is an innocent, informative and high quality event held right alongside the Hempola hemp fields... real hemp crops growing for real hemp products; from salad dressings to roof shingles. In attendance at last year's festival was the Honourable Lorna Milne, Canadian Senator. Here's what Senator Milne had to say, "The Hempola Family Farm Festival is as unique and diverse as the uses of the hemp plant itself. My husband and I had a fantastic time at last year's festival. I look forward to seeing everyone again this year and chatting over a hemp ice cream cone!"

Major sponsors to date include: Health'N Vitality Magazine, Hemptown Clothing, Friendly Stranger, Canadian Natural Retailer Magazine, The New VR, Rock 95, Star 107, The Healthy Shopper Magazine, Wye Marsh Wildlife Centre and Embassy Food Specialties. Proceeds from the event will go to the newly formed non-profit industry
association -- the Ontario Hemp Alliance as well as amateur athletics.
