400mh bulb veg stage

Hey guys, had a few questions on lighting during veg. how many plants can I fit under a 400w mh bulb, how tall would the plants be till I need to switch to flower, and how far away does the light need to be from the tops of the plants? Thank you!

4 plants under 400w mh worked good for me. That is in a 5x2.5 ft tent. I kept it about 18inches from the top of the canopy. Got some mars quantum boards now. They are alot better heat wise and seem better in general over hids
