Air-cooled hood and fan failure?

What happens if you have an air-cooled hood and the fan responsible for cooling it fails?

Can it cause a fire from overheating? Do the bulbs explode?

I'd like to get an air-cooled hood, but I'm concerned about safety.

No they still work fine. Probaby better off to take the glass off but I haven't with mine and haven't had any problems.

So you're running your reflector with the glass on, no active cooling, and it's doing OK?

What kinda wattage you running?

Its fine. Most commercial HID lights don't have any venting at all. They are completely sealed enclosures with ballast in them and everything.

your HID light system will be just fine. Your plants may not be so lucky.

The reason you air cool a fan is to keep the ROOM cool. So, if in the middle of your grow and your light breaks, you better hope your room doesnt get hotter than 90 degrees or you could easily kill your plants.

It's not how hot it gets, but how long it stays hot that hurts plants. i've had my rooms reach triple digits but only for a hour or two and suffered no bad results. I've had them sit at 90 for 8 hours and had wilted crisp critters too.

I know the purpose is to keep the room cool, but since I was concerned about a possible fire, losing my plants hadn't really even entered my mind.
