Someone tried to set fire to C.A.P.S. early Thursday but failed to shutter the Palm Springs medical marijuana dispensary.

An officer checking out a burglary alarm at Collective Apothecary Prescription Service, 4050 Airport Center Drive, about 2:30 a.m. found a small fire on the floor of the lobby and quickly put it out with a fire extinguisher, according to Palm Springs police.

Someone broke the dispensary's glass front door and threw in an incendiary device in an unsuccessful attempt to burn the business, according to police.

No significant damage was caused, and the arsonist or arsonists were gone by the time police arrived.

C.A.P.S., which in April secured one of the three permits the city of Palm Springs has given to dispensaries, declined to comment but was open Thursday afternoon.

Police and fire investigators are looking into the fire, and officials asked anyone with information on the case to call police Detective Marcus Litch at (760) 323-8140.
