Aurora Council Votes To Delay Recreational Pot Sales

The Aurora City Council on Monday voted to delay the date residents can begin applying for licenses to run marijuana selling facilities.

The moratorium that passed unanimously allows the council to take until May 5, 2014, to create regulations regarding recreational pot sales. State regulations would have kicked in Oct. 1.

"We're not saying no forever; we're not saying yes," said Councilman Brad Pierce.

Reasons for the delay include a need to study where marijuana business should be located, planned consultations with other cities that are closer to adopting selling regulations, and time to consider proposals for how to deal with Amendment 64 and recreational weed.

Councilman Bob Broom's proposal to turn to voters once again in the hopes of banning recreational marijuana facilities was shot down earlier this month.

Marijuana membership clubs were also prohibited, as well as festivals. Adrian D. Garcia, The Denver Post
