Tehama County's board of supervisors unanimously approved a series of regulations on medical marijuana at its meeting this morning.

The plan establishes an across-the-board 12-plant limit regardless of their maturity.

The plan also imposes a fine of up to $1,000 a day for noncompliant gardens and allows code enforcement officers to investigate complaints.

An optional misdemeanor penalty can also be imposed, although county officials say it would not be a routine procedure.

All gardens must be at least 100 feet from neighboring property regardless of a property's size, although a hardship exemption remains, the report says.

Current patients do not have to reduce their number of plants to a maximum of 12 until 2014.
