Six medical cannabis delivery drivers are facing misdemeanor charges after a San Diego Sheriff's Department sting conducted in Santee.
Deputies placed orders through a website and sent the delivery drivers photos of ID's with a doctor's note to lure them to the Carlton Oaks Golf Club.
San Diego Sheriff's Department says they recovered 12 pounds in cannabis product in the operation.
President of the San Diego Cannabis Delivery Alliance, Elizabeth Wilhelm, is calling the sting a stunt and says this the latest attempt smear the notion of medical cannabis.
"These people were delivering medication to a patient that had a legitimate recommendation," said Wilhelm. "It seems like they're going after the lowest hanging fruit."
There has been an increase in robberies of dispensaries and cannabis delivery drivers countywide, according to SD Sheriff's Department.
"It's really incumbent on the delivery services to find out and know the municipal codes in the cities they do business in," said Lt. Anthony O'Boyle.
The recreational use and delivery of cannabis are illegal in Santee.
