Ottawa - Wrestler Romaine Smith of Niagara Falls, Ont., has received a warning, but no suspension, after testing positive for marijuana.

Smith committed a doping violation Jan. 15 in Guelph, Ont., at the Guelph Open. While marijuana is on the World Anti-Doping Agency's prohibited list, it's classified as a "specified substance" because it's not used for performance enhancement. The Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport said in a release Friday that when an athlete establishes that a violation involving a specified substance was not intended to enhance performance, the sanction may range from a reprimand to a one-year ban from the sport.

Smith, who wrestles for the Manitoba Bisons club, waived his right to a hearing and admitted he had committed an anti-doping offence. He was given a warning and reprimand, but no ban from competition.
