Kingston, Ontario--Organizers of Kingston's first medical marijuana dispensary say the club will re-open.

In a statement last week, the Kingston Compassion Club Society announced plans to re-open Aug. 22, more than two months after closing.

On June 19, Kingston police responded to a report of a break-in at the club's office in the Medical Arts Building on Princess Street.

The incident was reported after club workers noticed an online security video feed from the office had been interrupted.

When police arrived, officers determined none of the three club workers present at the time was legally permitted to possess marijuana for medical reasons.

Police removed the club's supply of marijuana, about 825 grams, and two days later returned with a search warrant and removed the centre's computer system and patient records.

Shortly after the closing, club spokesperson Matt Thornton said police had no option other than seizing the club's marijuana but he added that closing the club would force people allowed to use marijuana for medical purposes to buy the drug on the street.

The police still have the marijuana and the re-opened club will not be dispensing cannabis to patients.

"The people who robbed us and the police still have our stock and funds. There will be no cannabis on site," Thornton said in a statement announcing the club's scheduled re-opening.

"We will not be dispensing any cannabis products, period."

The club will accept new members and help register people for the Health Canada's Medical Marijuana Access Regulations program.
