Colorado City Voters To Consider Medical Pot Ban

Grand Junction voters will get to decide whether to ban medical marijuana businesses.

The City Council voted Wednesday to send the issue to voters, who'll decide in the April 5 municipal election. The council voted in October to ban the businesses starting Jan. 1, but the ordinance was thrown out when Grand Junction residents petitioned to overturn it.

The city clerk determined there were enough signatures on the petition to invalidate the ban.

Colorado voters in 2000 approved medical uses of marijuana. State regulations passed this year give communities the power to regulate medical marijuana centers or prohibit them.
