Downtown March Scheduled to Protest Medical Marijuana Ban in Great Falls

A ban on medical marijuana businesses in Great Falls will officially take effect on Thursday, July 1st and local patients and caregivers are not happy about that. They will speak out against the ban during a march downtown on Thursday afternoon.

Montanans for Responsible Legislation, a non-profit group that serves as an advocate for medical marijuana patients in the state has organized the march. Demonstrators say they hope to raise awareness about the struggle many medical marijuana patients face.

They say the ban merely perpetuates a black market economy, leaving vulnerable people open to exploitation while placing their health at risk. The ban will prevent any medical marijuana businesses from setting up shop within city limits.

Contention and controversy surrounding the industry has prompted many cities across the state to enact similar bans. The group will begin their march at Tracy's restaurant Thursday afternoon at 1:00 PM.
