Albuquerque, New Mexico (KRQE) - A New Mexico State Police officer and a crime-fighting K9 are back in news after they pulled off a major drug bust.
Arcenio Chavez and his drug dog Chica were first featured by News 13 in 2006 after Chica got out of her kennel and ran away.
Someone found her and the two were reunited.
Friday, the team hit jackpot during a traffic stop on Interstate 40 West of Albuquerque.
Chavez said he noticed the driver and the passengers were acting suspicious. He handed over a citation for a seatbelt violation and started asking more questions.
Eventually, Chica sniffed out 40 pounds of marijuana hidden inside the trunk.
The driver Emmanuel Chavez, 26, was arrested.
He appeared in court on charges of drug possession and intent to distribute on Saturday.
