A father and son from Edinboro who landed a plane in Litchfield, Ill., in March 2013 with nearly 39 pounds of marijuana on board were sentenced to four years in prison and fined approximately $20,000 each, according to the Hillsboro (Ill.) Journal-News.

Phillip Russell, 56, and his son, Adam Russell, 30, were sentenced recently in Montgomery County Circuit Court in Hillsboro.

Erie County assessment records show that Phillip Russell owns Edinboro Lake Resort, in the 12600 block of Edinboro Road in Washington Township, and the Harbor Ridge Golf Club, 3730 Harbor Ridge Trail in Harborcreek Township.

Adam Russell is the general manager of Harbor Ridge Golf Club.

Both men negotiated pleas to felony possession of marijuana greater than 5,000 grams in December, according to the paper. The pleas capped their possible sentence at four years in prison, the Journal-News reported.

Both men were charged after the Department of Homeland Security notified Litchfield police that a plane was about to land at Litchfield Airport on March 9, 2013, according to the Journal-News.
