Bay County Commissioners passed their medical marijuana ordinance after getting no community input in their public hearing.

The ordinance imposes an eight month moratorium, or temporary ban, on dispensaries, not medical marijuana itself.

This will give the county time to work with the community on where they want, or do not want, these dispensaries placed in the unincorporated areas.

"We just don't want a pot shop on every corner is the expression that's being used and so once the rules are in place with the legislature and planning and zoning we think we'll have a good grip on it hopefully in the second quarter of the year and that way it will be available to all the citizens in a little more responsible manor in Bay County," said Philip "Griff" Griffitts, Bay County Commissioner.

Amendment Two goes into affect on January 3rd, but it will be months before the state regulates the dispensaries and starts issuing licenses for medical marijuana.
