Palm Beach - A cable company worker discovered several booby-trapped marijuana plants at a duplex west of Lake Worth Wednesday afternoon, sheriff's officials said.
Three plants were protected by tripwires and spike-filled pits, officials said. The bomb squad was called to make sure explosives were not connected to the wires, Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office Spokesman Paul Miller said. After a search, the bomb squad found no explosives.
Several residents were evacuated, and the area surrounding the home in the 4100 block of 42nd Way South was cordoned off just before noon as investigators secured the marijuana, which was planted along a canal bank on a dead-end street. Deputies cleared the scene at about 3 p.m.
