As you know, several important marijuana bills have now crossed over from the Hawaii Senate to the House. The bad news is that some have very tough referrals to 3 committees (with the first one being a joint referral of 2 committees. This means that the bills will have a difficult time making the internal deadlines for hearings. Usually, bills referred to 3 committees are destined to die because they cannot meet the deadlines.

So I'm asking you to call or email the Chairs noted below and ask them to schedule the bills for hearings AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. If you are a doctor, a patient, or a caregiver, call or email them now!

Here are the bills:

1. SB58 SD1 Medical Cannabis -the most important bill to call about! Makes major improvements to the current program with the top recommendations from the Medical Cannabis Working Group Report. Triple Referral : HLT/PBM, JUD, FIN. (This means that Health is the "lead committee". ) Health Committee already has hearing notices out for Tuesday and this is NOT on it. Please call or write Health Chair Ryan Yamane at 586-6150 or write repyamane@capitol.hawaii.gov and ask him to hear it asap.
2. SB175 SD2 Medical Use of Marijuana-Moves the medical marijuana program from Public Safety to DOH. Referral: PBM/HLT, FIN. Please call or write Public Safety Committee Chair Henry Aquino at 586-6520 or write repaquino@capitol.hawaii.gov and ask him to hear it.
3. SB1460 SD1 Marijuana; Civil Penalties for Possession of One Ounce or Less -Would decriminalize possession of 1 oz or less of marijuana and change it from a petty misdemeanor to a civil infraction. Referral: HLT/PBM, JUD. Please call or write Chair Ryan Yamane at 586-6150 or write repyamane@capitol.hawaii.gov and ask him to hear it.
4. SB113 SD2 Medical Cannabis; Research Program — Would set up a research program in Hawaii to study medical marijuana. Triple Referral: PBM/HLT, JUD, FIN. Please call or write Public Safety Cmttee Chair Henry Aquino at 586-6520 or write repaquino@capitol.hawaii.gov and ask him to hear it.

You have all been so helpful in sending in an amazing number of testimonies for the hearings. Please help get these bills heard in the House.
