Residents will have an opportunity to give their views on a proposed bylaw to limit medicinal marijuana in Westborough at a public hearing Tuesday, Feb. 5.

The bylaw would mainly define how dispensaries and cultivation will be handled. The hearing will be held at 7:30 p.m. in Room 21 of the Forbes Municipal Building.

"The evidence for a plausible risk is there, and I think it behooves us to act from a precautionary perspective to ensure that we have a closely written law," Lester Hensley, chair of the Planning Board, said in a presentation to the Board of Selectmen.

In a written request for the public hearing, the Planning Board said the bylaw's goal is to "minimize any potential adverse impacts on property values, schools and other places where children frequent, residential neighborhoods and the quality of life in the Town."

The hearing request said the bylaw will address siting, design, placement, safety, monitoring, modification and removal of medical marijuana treatment and dispensing facilities.

The full bylaw is on file and can be viewed during regular business hours at the Town Clerk's office.
