HEMP IS EASY TO CONSTRUCT AND A GREAT FABRIC TO WEAR

Q: On a whim, I bought some hemp fabric last summer and am now pondering sewing it. It's medium weight, suitable for a jacket or pants. How does it handle?

A: As its texture may suggest, hemp cloth behaves much like linen both during construction (easy!) and in wear, where it creases a little less. It's washable but hard to press and can lose dye; I'd dry-clean darker colours, at least. Use woven fusible interfacing to crisp a jacket. Hemp takes topstitching brilliantly. It's a new classic.
