Holland Cafes To Be Under Different Drug-Selling Rules

Holland has decided to allow more drug experimentation in the city of Amsterdam.

Different kinds of bars will be allowed to sell cannabis and hashish under new rules, in order to reduce social problems in sales of soft drugs.

Under the current rules, soft drugs can only be bought in certain bars and cafés, creating a situation whereby only drug users become patrons.

In the new trial, there will be two types of drug-selling cafes: one where drugs can be consumed and the other where drugs can only be bought.

Amsterdam has long wanted to crack down on crime surrounding soft drugs by toughening conditions required to grow cannabis.

While growing cannabis is illegal in the Netherlands, its cultivation has become a booming trade, with foreign consumers flocking to the country in order to indulge.

But police have warned organised crime is becoming heavily involved in the trade.
