How to put it on a ballot in Ohio

noxiously

How would one go about putting "legalizing medical marijuana" on the ballot in Ohio? What would be the best way going about it; copying from the California/Colorado laws?

I looked a couple of things up earlier this year for a relative that lives in that state. The Ohio bill was nice because it included anti-discriminatory language (job, housing, education). It was sent to the Health committee. It doesn't look like it made it out (yet?). The person that introduced the bill (Representative Yuko) stated that if it was voted down this year he would reintroduce it in January. IDK what the procedure would be if instead of being voted down it languished in committee.

If you don't like NORML, the MPP is a good organization. Or even if you do, there's no reason to confine yourself. Here are some activist sites:

Marijuana Policy Project
Ohioans for Medical Marijuana
North Ohio NORML

The bill is Ohio HB478: Medical Use of Cannabis. I give it points right there for using the correct term (cannabis). Here is the text on an Ohio state website:
Ohio HB 478
The relevant sections are generally underlined. Notice that it lists Yoko and the cosponsors right at the top. If you live in that state, please write (real letters seem to be more effective when writing politicians) them and say thanks. Also, please write those who are against it (or just aren't cosponsors) and attempt to get them to support it. BE POLITE! If you suffer from a physical or mental condition that is or could be helped by the passage of this bill, let them know how it would enrich the quality of life. Unfortunately, many politicos in non-progressive states (and no few in the progressive ones) feel that bills like this would only help "criminals" profit - when in truth, the passage of legislation like this would only deny them a market, that of the ill (might be helpful to mention that your dollars could better be spent in legitimate ways instead of being used to finance the drug war from both sides? IDK). Remember, when you're trying to educate someone and get them to see your point of view, yelling (or "yelling in print") has the opposite affect, 100% of the time.

A page on an Ohio state website that shows the current status of the bill:

Good luck!
