I’m close to finishing up my 1st grow & went straight to RDWC. There’s so much about RDWC that’s enticing to me, I just couldn’t see growing any other way! I built my own system & designed it to fit in a smaller tent (3’ x 4’ ft), so I’d have room for a 2 tent perpetual grow setup in just an average sized walk-in basement closet. It’s a 4-plant System, but 2 of my plants turned out to be males despite using feminized seeds, so I quickly removed them & had 2 girls remaining.
It turned out perfect bcuz the 2 females ended up filling almost the entire tent after topping & Scrogging. I also couldn’t be more pleased with the size & quality of my 1st grow! I’ll attach some photos.
I live in Colorado & have tons of friends who smoke MJ, many whom also grow. I’ve shown my system & set-up to most of my friends & after seeing my results, I’ve had well over a dozen requests to build more for my friends. Before I begin mass-production (not really mass, but you get my drift), I want to fine-tune my design so I don’t end up with a bunch of pissed-off friends calling me constantly for troubleshooting.
I’ve created 3 different designs, but all based on the same concept...the only difference is the # of plants it holds (2, 3 or 4).
I use 5 gallon rectangular buckets to ensure a good bulkhead seal & a 1000gph in-line pump in the control station. It has a lower circulation using 1-1/2 inch ABS & an upper circulation using 1/2” inch pipe for a waterfall system leading to each grow bucket. I also created a water jet propulsion in the control station to create a fluming or geyser effect to generate even more dissolved O2. I even turned of the air pump for a week just to put it to the test & the plants still thrived.
I realize the 1-1/2 inch undercurrent pipe is a bit on the small size, but I’ve had no issues with leaks, circulation or root clogs. I think adding the waterfall system reduces the undercurrent flow just enough to control root suction. I also placed large air stones right near the outlet which diverts the roots away from getting sucked into the pipes. I also have a 25 gallon collapsible reservoir outside the tents that keeps the RDWC at a consistent level via float valve.
As it turns out, I love growing cannabis almost as much as I love smoking it. I also love designing & building these hydroponic systems! I’ll include several pics & answer any questions & greatly appreciate any input!
