The owner of a building at 1107 W. Fulton St. wants to change the zoning on his property, and neighbors are invited to weigh in on the proposed change at a meeting next week.
Ald. Walter Burnett Jr. (27th) and the West Loop Community Organization will host the meeting to discuss the proposed zoning change at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Event Creative, 219 N. Paulina St.
The building is attached to a property at 1105 W. Fulton St. Businessman and strip club owner Perry Mandera previously planned to develop Custom Strains, a medical marijuana dispensary, in the vacant building at 1105 W. Fulton St.
But resistance from the community might have killed Mandera's plan to put the dispensary at the site. Calling Mandera's plan for the Fulton Market site "very hard" to support, Burnett confirmed in March that he asked Mandera to locate alternative sites in the West Loop for the dispensary instead.
The property at 1107 W. Fulton St. has been vacant for eight years. The owner plans to rehab the interior of the building and build a new fourth-floor penthouse addition.
As it exists today, the building is not in compliance with the property's current zoning, according to a city notice. The zoning change would bring the existing building, with proposed renovations, into compliance with the city's rules.
Carla Agostinelli, executive director of the West Loop Community Organization, said no tenant has signed a lease for the property.
The owner, his architect and zoning attorney Sarah Barnes will be present at the meeting to answer questions. Neighbors with questions before the meeting can reach out to Barnes at 312-782-1983.
The building at 1105 W. Fulton St. is owned by a corporation held by Aiman and Aisha Humaideh, according to state business records filed in 2014.
