Illinois has turned over 13,000 pages of documents to attorneys challenging how medical marijuana business licenses were awarded.

Attorney John Rooks says Monday that the release of the material Friday marks the first time the state has opened up the information. He represents Chicago-based PM Rx, an aspiring marijuana company that has sued the state of Illinois.

A Cook County judge ordered the documents released to attorneys involved in the case, not the general public. The documents include applications from five companies that competed for a growers' permit in a region that covers Ford, Iroquois and Kankakee counties.

Rooks says identifying information has been blacked out. He says he will ask the state for complete versions of the documents, but he's ready to ask the court to get unredacted documents.
