Licensed Pot Growers Arrested For Dealing

Narcotics agents arrested three people at the home of an Aloha licensed medical marijuana provider early Wednesday, July 21, seizing all the plants and harvested pot on suspicion the drug was being sold for profit.

Arrested were 49-year-old Melanie Ann Orr, 20-year-old Amanda Dawn Orr and 45-year-old Michael Eugene King. All three were charged with manufacture, distribution and possession of marijuana. All three live at the house.

Police say Melanie Orr and King are both medical marijuana growers registered with the Oregon Medical Marijuana Program. Melanie Orr also has a prescription for medical marijuana.

Both have specific patients they grow for, but King is not a grower for Orr.

Growing pot to sell to people other than licensed patients is a crime, said Washington County Sheriff's Office Sgt. David Thompson. Sometimes providers grow more than the allowable limit.

"If it's just over the limit, then we leave them with what they're allowed to have," Thompson said. "If they are selling it to people other than their patients, we take it all."

Investigators with the Westside Interagency Narcotics team served the warrant at 3310 SW 173rd Avenue at about 4:30 a.m. Officers seized nearly four pounds of harvested weed, more than a hundred mature marijuana plants, four pit bull dogs and two guns. The dogs were not injured and were taken to the Bonnie L. Hayes Animal Shelter.

The guns were a Mac 11 9mm semi-automatic pistol and a 12-gauge shotgun.
