Lunenburg - The Massachusetts ballot Question 4 would legalize the possession and use of marijuana by adults over the age of 21, and with the November election nearing, Kyle Ezzio has had more and more people approach him about the possibility.
"With the upcoming possibility of the legalization of recreational marijuana, we noticed an influx of people asking for that sort of thing," said Ezzio, who recently opened Twin City Smoke Shop on Summer Street in Lunenburg.
The Pepperell resident said the potential of recreational marijuana being legalized "absolutely" played a role in him opening the shop.
The shop currently sells glassware, which is clearly marked for tobacco use only, hookahs, cannabidol, which is a key ingredient in cannabis known as CBD, and well as art, clothing and jewelry.
The glassware is the sort of thing people have asked Ezzio about with the possibility of recreational marijuana being legalized. The store has cases full of various products and brands.
Ezzio owns the store next door as well, Lineage Vapors, which sells a variety of e-cigarette and vapor products.
He said both stores have an underlying "health benefit to society." Ezzio owns two other Lineage Vapors, in Nashua and Derry, N.H.
Lineage Vapors is designed to help people stop smoking cigarettes, while Twin City Smoke Shop's extensive CBD selection can help with pain reduction or anxiety, Ezzio said.
"It is one of the active ingredients of marijuana, minus the THC," Ezzio said. "It has no mood- or mind-altering effects.
It has a lot of anti-inflammatory properties, anti-anxiety properties and things like that."
The shop sells CBD in various forms, including gum, oral spray, lozenge and drink, as well as other forms. Ezzio said the CBD selection is what Twin City from other smoke shops in the area.
He said he tires to make his more have a community feel to them, something he learned from his mother, Tracie, who owns Pepperell Family Pharmacy. Watching his mother run a business and deal with customers is his inspiration for how he runs his businesses, Ezzio said.
"I owe everything to her," he said.
He said he intends to host events and to make sure he has "something for everyone" at the new smoke shop, as he tries to do at Lineage Vapors.
Ezzio said there is a parallel between the stores and hopes one day to combine them.
He said Twin City will have a grand opening on Oct. 15 with live music, giveaways and sales.
