A local man says he is "rolling to the White House."

Curtis Kyle left from his home in Taylor on Friday and hopes to make it to Washington D.C. to talk with lawmakers about legalizing marijuana.

"I'm rolling my wheelchair to Washington D.C. from my home in Taylor, I'm hoping to get to the White House by the Fourth of July," Kyle told WWJ's Newsradio 950′s Brian Larsen.

Kyle has cerebral palsy and has used his wheelchair his whole life. He's using mostly back roads on his trip, and is hoping to travel about 40 miles each day.

"Most of them are back roads," he said. "I do have an escort by me."

His father, who recently passed away, was also a marijuana advocate.

"He walked from his home in Taylor to the White House in 1978, so I'm doing this in his honor," he said.

Kyle says he has reached out to the White House in hopes of planning a meeting when he arrives, but he hasn't heard back yet.
