Marijuana Business Opens in Laingsburg

LAINGSBURG, MI – Natural Solutions owners say they bring the community a unique new business.

The medical marijuana and "cottage" business opened last week.

"A lot of people have been working awful hard to be here," manager of Natural Solutions Todd Tucker said, noting the firm has been working on opening since 2008.

Tucker said the business, beyond the medical marijuana, is a cottage industry business in which the creation of products and services is home-based, rather than factory-based.

Tucker and manager Bryan Fountain added the non-marijuana products to help the business comply with county zoning regulations that prevent such businesses from displaying marijuana or marijuana-related products in their windows.

The front of the store features all home-made products, such as scarves, soaps, jewelry and other items.

All of the products are made by local people, Tucker said.

"We want to be able to help the local people," he said. "We were doing it so the public doesn't feel uncomfortable."

The marijuana portion of the business takes place in the rear of the building.

For a customer to enter that portion of the store, they must show their medical marijuana card and identification, Tucker said.

Once allowed in, products include marijuana brownies, cookies, suckers and other products and paraphernalia.

Those individuals eligible to enter the back are only allowed to enter by themselves. Any items purchased are placed in an opaque bag before leaving the back so no one can see what was purchased, Fountain said.

The county's ordinance also restricts customers from eating, smoking or using any of the marijuana products on site.

The business doesn't have any marijuana plants on site, Tucker said.

"We just want the town to feel comfortable," Tucker said. "(And) we want someone who actually needs the services not to be afraid to come in and ask questions.

"We're just here for the people that need it," Tucker said. "We really appreciate the town's and the community's support."

Tucker and Fountain said they are looking for more venders to sell non-marijuana-related items in the front of the store.

Natural Solutions is open 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
