Marijuana Farmer Gets 7½ Years

A Kansas City, Kan., man caught in the act of tending to his 900 marijuana plants was sentenced Monday to 7½ years in prison.

Kevin A. Novosel, 23, pleaded guilty last year in U.S. District Court in Kansas City, Kan., to one count of conspiracy to manufacture a controlled substance and one count of carrying a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, U.S. Attorney Eric Melgren's office said in a release Tuesday.

Novosel and Boyd J. Price, the release said, were growing marijuana in Anderson County, Kan., on land the state designated as a walk-in hunting area. On July 23, 2004, a Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks employee discovered the marijuana. Three days later, investigators armed with videocameras taped Novosel as he watered the plants.

A search of Novosel's Kansas City, Kan., home uncovered more marijuana plants, the release said, in addition to firearms and supplies for growing the plants.

Price was sentenced in June to the same time behind bars as Novosel.

Sad fact , but if you grow on public land you are taking those risks.A couple of years ago I read about some guerillas that mounted a motion-activated video camera on their crop and caught some po-pos on video installing their own video cameras to try and bust them.They went back and hid the agents' cameras in different locations aimed at the spots where they had been originally mounted and then sent them the tapes of them looking for their cameras.OOOOOOOOOO BBBBBUUUUURRRNNNNNNNNNNN!
