A medical marijuana dispensary is slated to open this summer in Brockton after receiving state approval last week.
In Good Health, a Registered Marijuana Dispensary that will operate under the state's medical marijuana law, received approval from the Massachusetts Department of Public Health on April 24.
The nonprofit plans to open the dispensary on West Chestnut Street by the middle of this summer, according to a statement issued Thursday.
"We are very much looking forward to opening our doors and serving the needs of patients in Brockton and beyond," said David Noble, President of In Good Health. "We are grateful for the support we have received from the patient community and leaders in the city of Brockton, and for the state's approval."
Thr DPH issued its license following an inspection of the newly completed, 16,000-square-foot facility at 1200 West Chestnut Street, in a city industrial park.
Cultivation will be done on-site and the facility includes a kitchen for the preparation of edible products. In Good Health is the first dispensary to receive state licensure South of Boston.
In Good Health received its final city approval last fall. Earlier this year, Mayor Bill Carpenter reached a deal with the dispensary that will provide Brockton at least $100,000 per year.
The city will receive $100,000 during the dispensary's first year of operation, divided into two payments. Half is due six months after the dispensary opens and half at the end of the first year of business.
Starting the second year of operation, the city gets 3 percent of gross revenue or $100,000, whichever is greater. Also starting in the second year, local non-profit addiction service providers will get an additional 1 percent of gross revenue.
