A medical marijuana zoning article will go to special Town Meeting for an up-or-down vote, but not with the blessing of the Pembroke Planning Board, who gave the proposal a unanimous thumbs-down Monday night, March 11.

The bylaw would allow medical marijuana treatment centers by special permit, as long as the dispensaries are at least 1,500 feet away from residential districts, schools, child care establishments, other marijuana centers, and establishments licensed to pour alcohol.

The bylaw would allow medical marijuana treatment centers in the adult use district, which includes industrial and business districts east of the Southeast Expressway, Route 3, along Church Street and Old Oak Street near the Marshfield line.

The Planning Board voted 6-0 Monday to close a public hearing and recommend that special Town Meeting on April 23 take unfavorable action on a proposed medical marijuana treatment center zoning bylaw.
