A Bozeman couple has been ordered to pay $450,000 after pleading guilty to federal drug charges related to their medical marijuana business.

Mark and Valerie Sigler owned Big Sky Patient Care, a medical marijuana provider with locations in Dillon, Big Sky and Bozeman. Their business was among those raided in March 2011 in a federal crackdown on large medical marijuana providers in the state.

The Siglers previously pleaded guilty to conspiracy to manufacture, distribute and possess marijuana with intent to distribute.

On Thursday, U.S. District Judge Donald Molloy sentenced 60-year-old Mark Sigler to six months home arrest and 38-year-old Valerie Sigler to one year home arrest. They were ordered to pay $450,000.

It must be nice to be rich. This is why the only way to come out of a federal court alive is to plea bargain. Normally these people would be spending a couple of years in a federal prison but because they made a ton of money off of medical cannabis patients they can afford to buy there freedom. Virtually no one goes to court on a federal case because the costs and risks are enormous. Thats why Tommy Chong voluntarily went to prison on a plea bargain. The truth is the feds have no jursidiction in most of these cases but because we have no one to represent the people in our state governments they just bend over and let the feds do whatever they want. We need to start electing governors with some sort of ethics. Not a single governor in the country falls into that category.
