A Los Chavez man who has a license to grow medical marijuana was arrested last Tuesday after an investigation allegedly revealed that he was selling the marijuana to the public.

Richard Gonzales, 52, was arrested Thursday at his home in the 5000 block of Cedro Way after sheriff's deputies executed a search warrant. They found 30 marijuana plants growing in the house, said Valencia County Sheriff Louis Burkhard.

Several baggies containing marijuana were also found during the search, Burkhard said.

A 90-day investigation conducted by the Sheriff's Office and Isleta Police Department revealed that Gonzales was distributing the marijuana, and a search warrant was then obtained, Burkhard said.

A medical marijuana license found in Gonzales' house specified that Gonzales could grow a maximum of 12 seedlings and four mature plants, Burkhard said.

Gonzales was booked into Valencia County Detention Center on a charge of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.
