A 33-year-old Laketon Township man had at least one medical marijuana plant stolen from an outdoor shed earlier this week, police said.

The victim told deputies from the Muskegon County Sheriff's Office that around 2:26 a.m. on Monday his personal surveillance camera captured a grainy image of a suspect using a ladder and a number of tools to gain entry into the shed.

Inside the shed, police said, were marijuana plants the victim grows outside his home located in the 1800 block of Peterson Road.

The victim was able to provide authorities with a medical marijuana card, according to Muskegon County Undersheriff Dan Stout.

Authorities at the scene collected evidence, including fingerprints and footprints, and sent some items to the Michigan State crime lab in Lansing for review, Stout said.

The suspect left behind one small marijuana plant and took a larger one during the alleged theft, police said.

The investigation is ongoing. A suspect hadn't been identified as of early Thursday.
