Medical Marijuana Centers across Detroit are now under tougher restrictions after the Detroit City Council adopted a new ordinance regarding licensing.

"We applaud Councilman Tate and his colleagues along with the Detroit Law Department for enacting reasonable regulations that will help protect Detroit's medical marijuana patients," said Robin Schneider, legislative liaison of the National Patients Rights Association.

Councilman James Tate is responsible for introducing the ordinance to help ensure the rights of those in need of marijuana for medical purposes.

"There are thousands of children and adults who not only benefit but rely on the positive effects of Medical Marijuana. Councilman Tate and others on the City Council have shown themselves to be extraordinarily compassionate," said Schneider.

The ordinance is also intended to help eliminate the overuse and abuse by others in the community using marijuana for recreational use.

The vote for the zoning ordinance for the centers is expected to happen soon.
