A draft ordinance addressing medical marijuana dispensaries is set for a public hearing on Aug. 2 before the DeWitt Township Board and could be ready for adoption later in the month.

The township board discussed the issue in its meeting on Monday night and decided not to extend the 120-day moratorium on medical marijuana operations enacted by the township on April 26.

If the planning commission recommends it, the ordinance could reach the board for a vote as early as Aug. 9.

DeWitt Township officials said their draft is similar to others being discussed in neighboring communities, including Bath Township.

The Williamston City Council was expected to talk about the issue in its meeting on Monday night but postponed that discussion for now, city officials said.
