Santa Fe, N.M. — The New Mexico Medical Cannabis Advisory Board is set to listen to public input on which, if any new uses for medical marijuana should be added to their list.
The Medical Cannabis Advisory Board is set to listen to several new uses for medical cannabis Friday.
The board meets at least twice a year.
The purpose of their public hearings is to give any New Mexican a chance to submit a petition to add a new medical condition, treatment or disease to the program's list.
Friday, the board, made up of eight board certified practitioners, will listen to proposals to add addiction to opioids as a condition.
Also on the agenda, Alzheimer's disease, Autism and ADD or ADHD.
The board will review the petitions and decide whether or not to approve any new conditions.
Another big issue likely to be addressed Friday is the massive backlog in medical cannabis cards the state has seen this year.
Patients had been waiting 60 days for new cards.
The latest update from the Department of Health says that wait was just 26 days in September.
The DOH had been working on increasing their staff to meet the demand.
It is too late to submit a new condition to the board Friday but the meeting is open to the public.
It's at 10 a.m. at Harold Runnels Building in Santa Fe.
