The Mesquite City Council will once again discuss recreational marijuana at Tuesday's meeting in hopes of providing a clear stance for the city's lobbyist during the upcoming legislative session in which Nevada's recreational marijuana regulations will be developed.

The discussion is expected to be two-pronged.

First, the city will discuss the possibility of a city-wide referendum on the issue. When Mesquite's medical marijuana ordinance was established, the city decided that recreational marijuana would not be permitted unless the citizens of Mesquite voted separately to allow it. A referendum would satisfy that ordinance.

The council will also discuss repealing that part of the city's code in the event that the city does decide to license recreational marijuana.

Second, the council will discuss how they'd like the city's lobbyist, Warren Hardy, to advocate on behalf of Mesquite when recreational marijuana regulations are established during Nevada's 79th Legislative Session in Carson City.

Also Tuesday night, the council will also announce appointments for numerous boards and commissions:

- Mayor Al Litman will serve as Liaison for Nellis Air Force Base as well as on Mesquite's Community Education Advisory Board (CEAB). Litman will also be an alternate representative for the Nevada League of Cities.

- Councilman Geno Withhelder will be Mesquite's representative for the Nevada League of Cities, as well as Mayor Pro-tem.

- Councilman George Rapson will be appointed to the Las Vegas Convention & Visitors Authority and be an alternate representative for Nellis Air Force Base.

- Councilman Rich Green will represent Mesquite on the Las Vegas Global Economic Alliance (LVGEA) as well as the Southern Nevada Transport Coalition.

- Councilman Brian Wursten will represent Mesquite at the Southern Nevada Health District.

- Councilman Dave Ballweg will represent Mesquite on the Clark County Debt Management Commission, the Regional Flood Committee, and the Regional Transportation Committee.

The council will also consider approving a three-year airport use agreement with Front Seat Aviation LLC.

The regularly scheduled city council meeting begins at 5 p.m. Tuesday at City Hall.
