A Colorado man was in the capital city on Thursday to talk with lawmakers about the benefits of industrial hemp.

Rick Trojan, founder of the Hemp Road Trip, was at the statehouse today.

His group is advocating for the passage of the Industrial Hemp Farming Act before Congress in Washington. The bill would make it legal to grow hemp for use in manufacturing a variety of products.

"Hemp, as a rotational crop, leaves the ground better than it found it," Trojan said, "So it can increase the yields of tobacco 25 to 30 percent, increase yields of corn 6 to 8 percent."

"It is also a great alternative for farmers," Trojan said. "They are tired of growing, from what I've heard from farmers in Iowa and Kansas and all over the country, they are tired of growing the same crops over and over."

Trojan is from Colorado and owns the largest hemp farm in the country.
