Auditor General Eugene DePasquale today released the following statement on Senate Bill (SB) 3, which provides for the regulated medical use of cannabis in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania:

"For the sake of thousands of Pennsylvania children and adults, the time is long past for the General Assembly to pass legislation to allow for the medical use of marijuana.

For many people suffering from debilitating seizures, uncontrollable pain, nausea from chemotherapy and a host of other ailments, medical marijuana could be life-changing, if not life-saving.

I urge members of the state House of Representatives to swiftly pass SB 3 when they return to session in March. It is the correct and compassionate thing to do."

The Pennsylvania Senate approved SB 3 in May with overwhelming support by a majority of Democrats and Republicans. House Majority Leader Dave Reed's announced his decision to hold a vote on legislation that would legalize medical marijuana last week. That vote will take place in March.
