The Philippine National Police in northern Philippines is set to burn some 2,500 fully-grown marijuana trees as part of the government's campaign against the illegal growing of cannabis.

Police Chief Superintendent Pedro Bataoil, regional director of PNP - Region 1, said the burning will be held Monday during the flag-raising ceremony at the police regional headquarters at Camp Florendo Parian in San Fernando, La Union.

In a text message sent to All Headline News, Bataoil said the marijuana trees were uprooted at an illegal cannabis plantation at the boundary between the provinces of La Union and Benguet.

"We are really serious in curbing the illegal selling and distribution of marijuana. The police are regularly conducting patrols in the mountains to verify reports of marijuana plantation in the region," Bataoil told AHN.

The northern Philippines is the primary source of cannabis in the Philippines which is considered one of the best in the world.

It is illegal in the Philippines to plant, sell or distribute cannabis.

Damn! Once my son & i were driving home in mariposa, ca. and a buncha cop cars got in front of us followed by a pickup truck full of plants. they were hangin off the tailgate and dragging on the ground. buds flyin everywhere. so we pulled over and cleaned up litter for awhile. alota people did their civic duty and cleaned the roadside that day. they took the stuff to the landfill and poured diesel on it and left before it finished burning. for a couple of weeks people were trying to sell diesel soaked pot. yuck!
