The coach of the Atlantic Florida Owls Carl Pelini has resigned from his position after having to have a talk with the university's human resources department in regard to his drug use. Notices of his resignation that were posted via Twitter did not reference the reason behind the parting.

While both Pelini and the defensive coordinator who also resigned, were taken out of their offices by the police no arrests were made. Though Florida Atlantic may take further action against Pelini, with a fine up to five hundred thousand dollars that would be significant on a pot-smoking coaches salary. Though the coach admitted to drug usage the charge was attending a social gathering where pot smoking occurred with the defensive coordinator and that no other staff members or teammates were involved, but it seems as if his tenure had been problematic.

He made a name for himself at the university of Nebraska , but at FAU he has been on a losing streak, leaving his replacement with a lot of cleaning up to do. Pelini bowed as as gracefully as one could given the situation and in his official statement to the press said he apologizes for the poor judgement in the , but his greatest concern was for his family and the FAU players .

This is not the first time a drug scandal has been involved in college football, though normally it is the players who are apprehended with the drugs.Several incidents in the recent past cropped up where players had been attending raves and taking designer drugs or selling cocaine. While marijuana, often thought of as a softer drug due to its legal loopholes in some states and low fatality rate. The role of college football coach always comes across as being somewhere between a mentor and a drill sergeant, not the sort of position normally associated with pot smoking.

Sure he could have attended a rock concert and was seen passing the doobie along, when combined with his recreational use that he Might have kept more hidden brought things to a boiling point. It has been speculated this might ruin his career, but if he doesn't check himself into rehab in regards to this would have better luck finding a position on the west coast rather than the deep south or midwest where football is the drug.
