(Columbia-AP) Nov. 8, 2004 - The state Supreme Court has suspended a lawyer after police found he was growing marijuana.

Robert Lee Newton, Junior, had previously worked as a Pickens County prosecutor.

Deputies there arrested Newton in September 2003 and charged him with growing marijuana and with intent to distribute. The intent to distribute charge was later dropped.

Newton says the marijuana was for his personal use.

Newton entered a pretrial intervention program, and the marijuana manufacturing was dropped in June, because Newton was on an interim suspension in September 2003.
